Subjects & Qualification Requirements
An idea of what subjects and grades we would normally expect from candidates applying to do a Experimental Psychology (C830), Psychology & Philosophy (CV85), Psychology & Linguistics (CQ81), Philosophy & Linguistics (QV15) Degrees at Oxford. Our standard offer of a place is A*AA grades at A2 Level (or equivalent) in the subjects stated in your college offer letter.
Relevant Subjects
We strongly recommend that candidates have studied one or more of the science subjects e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Psychology and Mathematics to A2 Level.
In general, it is not an advantage to have studied Philosophy or Religious Studies (which is often quite philosophical in content) to A2 Level. Good indicators for success in Philosophy are likely to be analytical disciplines like Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Languages, History and English are also good to study to A2 Level.
For candidates wishing to apply for Linguistics, it is helpful to have studied English Language or any other language to A2 Level.
Extended Projects
The Extended Project will not be a condition of any college offer but the University of Oxford recognises that the Extended Project provides a candidate with the opportunity to develop research and academic skills relevant for study here at Oxford. Candidates are encouraged to draw upon relevant Extended Project experience when writing their UCAS Personal Statement.
GCSEs & A Level Qualifications
GCSEs: We would normally expect candidates, who have taken GCSEs, to have at least 4 A* grades in the above relevant subjects (especially with regards to Mathematics and English or achieved an A in these two subjects).
A-Levels: We would normally expect candidates to have gained (or are predicted) A*AA in the above relevant subjects.
