Oxford Science Adventures Week: A different approach to collecting data for developmental projects
Oxford Science Adventures was an activity week set up by doctoral students Rebecca Merkley and Hannah Hobson to run during the February half-term.
The first Oxford Science Adventures week was a great success. Over 50 children came into the Developmental Science Centre during half term and took part in fun, science-based craft activities, as well as real experiments. Children hunted for brain cells hidden around the centre, and made plasticine neurons and brain cards to take home with them. Nine different projects were able to collect data during the week, spanning investigations into language, attention, reading, and mathematical ability. Undergraduate volunteers were also recruited to help with the week, and were able to get first-hand experience of developmental research.
