Groundbreaking citizen science from Kate Nation’s ReadOxford research group at Oxford University

Word Detective is an online research study, gathering information about how children read words.  The Word Detective Quiz will be completed by 5000 5-16 year olds, sampling across 8000 words in total.

In collaboration with colleagues from Oxford University Press Children’s Dictionaries Department, ReadOxford have created a bespoke animated word decision game, using words from the Oxford Children’s Corpus- a unique database of language written for and by children, including the stories submitted for the BBC Radio 2 500 Words writing competition.

Word Detective was launched to schools and to families on 29th June 2017.  It will be hosted on Oxford University Press Owl School and Home digital platform.
