Martin O'Neill took to the stage last month to perform a play as part of the Pint of Science Creation Reactions Sci-Art Exhibition Grande Finale.
Waiting for Pavlov, which Martin also wrote, was inspired by the format of Waiting for Godot with the two protagonists, Seamus & Gerry, discussing big ideas in science, with a large splash of humour.
Seamus & Gerry are lay people meeting in the pub for a pint, with Gerry who is supportive of science (philosophical & rational in nature) and Seamus, who is a sceptic (direct & intuitive in nature).
The discussion develops with Gerry explaining big ideas in science to Seamus and ultimately requiring real-life examples to exemplify the nature of the relationship between science and real world application. The play develops with Seamus questioning Gerry and vice versa making it a rich, funny and fresh conversation with a clarity of understanding achieved through the interaction of Seamus and Gerry bringing them to a realisation that they are talking about the same thing!
