My role includes preparing the annual budget (turnover in excess of £9 million) and quarterly forecasts; management reporting; identifying and implementing changes and developments in financial systems, processes and procedures as required; overseeing a range of month-end and year-end processing activity in validating the department's accounts and ensuring they represent a complete and accurate view of the department financial position; developing and overseeing cost recovery mechanisms; assisting the Departmental Administrator in long-term financial planning, producing business cases, representing the department in financial audit; deputising for the Department Administrator as appropriate .
In addition, I act as secretary to the Departmental Resources Committee which oversees the financial management and strategy of the department; and work closely with the Research Grants and Contracts Manager in managing the departments’ post-award grants portfolio and ensuring all work is carried out according to University processes and grantors’ terms and conditions.
I began my University finance career in May 2010 at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics and have since worked at the Target Discovery Institute and the Oriental Studies Faculty.
