The Nuffield Foundation have awarded a grant to Ann Dowker, in collaboration with Denes Szucs and Ros McClellan of the University of Cambridge, for a project on ‘Understanding Mathematics Anxiety’.

http://www.nuffieldfoundation.org/understanding-mathematics-anxiety

In this project, we will assess the prevalence of mathematics anxiety and its relationship to mathematics performance and to test anxiety, in a sample of 1000 primary pupils, followed from Year 4 to Year 5 and 1000 secondary pupils, followed from Year 7 to Year 8. We will then interview a subsample of 120 primary and 120 secondary pupils (half with high mathematics anxiety and half without) to help obtain a fuller picture of childhood triggers, experiences and coping mechanisms.
