The Affective Science module provides a comprehensive introduction to affective or emotion science. We will discuss the nature of our emotional life highlighting the distinctions between affect, emotions, moods and feelings. Drawing on evidence from neuroscience, cognitive psychology, clinical psychology and social psychology you will learn about individual differences in how people respond to challenges and opportunities. The module will consider evidence relating to normal emotional reactivity as well as addressing emotional disorders, especially in relation to anxiety and depression.

The module is taught through the attendance of a series of lectures and the overall assessment is based on a written assignment.
