Decisions & Action (Rushworth Lab)
I am interested in understanding what are the neural circuits supporting learning and decision making. I particularly focus on the role of prefrontal-amygdala connectivity and on how their functional interactions allow us to learn the outcome of our choices and guide our behaviour.
My research uses a multi-modal approach to describe the anatomy, organization and neural activity of the prefrontal-amygdala network by combining diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), tractography task-based fMRI, resting-state fMRI and non-invasive brain stimulation techniques. We recently showed that we can use transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation (TUS) to transiently and transcranially modulate activity in both limbic and prefrontal areas. I am now using TUS to causally investigate the neural and behavioural effects of disrupting neural communication between amygdala and prefrontal cortex during decision-making.
