Social Sharing of Emotion

Research Summary

My research focuses on social sharing of emotions, an interpersonal process which is highly likely to occur when individuals experience an emotion and feel an urge to talk about it.

To investigate different patterns of social sharing in daily life and their consequences for individual well-being, I mainly use online diary surveys that allow people to report an emotional episode and what happen after it.

Currently, I am studying how social sharing of emotions acts as a response to a collective crisis.

Another strand of my research attempts to explore whether and how different types of emotions would influence patterns of social sharing.

My DPhil research is supervised by Professor Brian Parkinson and Professor Elaine Fox.
