Louisa Needham

Research Assistant

My background is in Psychology, with a BSc in Psychology from the University of Birmingham. Before coming to Oxford I completed my MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL, for which my dissertation topic was developmental stuttering.

I am now a research assistant working on the MRC-funded INSTEP (Investigating Noninvasive Stimulation to Enhance Fluency in People Who Stutter) trial. We want to see if non-invasive brain stimulation can improve speech fluency more than existing fluency-inducing methods. We are also using brain imaging techniques to see how different brain regions contribute to speech in people who stutter.

Our research will help in understanding how the brain controls speech and could lead to new treatments for stuttering.
