I am interested in how social inequality is maintained over time and how it comes to be challenged. I approach this question by studing how people's personality and environment interact to predict their beliefs about the society they live in (in particular, beiefs about economic, ethnic and gender inequality), and how these beliefs affect their policy preferences, political behaviour and psychological adjustment. I use a range of quantitative methods to study these issues, with a strong focus on longitudinal and multilevel modelling of nationally representative survey data from several countries (e.g., New Zealand, India and the UK).
