I am interested in the cellular and molecular basis of learning and memory, and especially how the brain forms and retrieves unpleasant memories – experiences that might produce emotional states such as fear or anxiety. My research seeks to understand how activity in brain regions such as the hippocampus and amygdala contribute to these memories and emotional states, and how this brain activity might be modulated by particular neurotransmitters or drugs.
