Our Mental Wellness is a lecture series that focuses on mental health topics of broad interest to staff, students and alumni. This sixth talk in the series, on the topic of Coping with Trauma, will be presented by Anke Ehlers, Professor of Experimental Psychopathology and Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellow.
A Q&A panel discussion will follow, chaired by Catharine Creswell (Professor of Developmental Clinical Psychology), and include:
- Anke Ehlers
About the talk:
About the speaker:
Anke Ehler's work mainly focuses on anxiety disorders and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The cognitive therapy programme for PTSD developed by her research group has been shown to be highly acceptable to patients and very effective. It has been successfully disseminated to provide effective treatment services for victims of the bombings in Omagh and London, and to National Health Service clinics. Her current research projects investigate whether the treatment can be delivered more efficiently, and what the mechanisms of treatment are. Experimental studies investigate mechanisms of intrusive memories after trauma.
About the Series:
We have come to realise the importance of mental health issues and the impact they can have on individuals as well as on society at large. But, can you separate the facts from the myths? Do you know how to promote your own mental wellness and help those around you?
At Oxford, we have some of the world’s leading researchers helping us understand the causes of mental conditions and develop effective evidence-based treatments. We are bringing them together in a new series – Our Mental Wellness – to share their knowledge and answer your questions about how we can look after each others’ mental wellness in our community.
Our Mental Wellness talks will take place twice per term.
Do you have a question you'd like to ask the panel?
When you register, you will be given the opportunity to submit a mental health question related to the topic of the talk for the panel to answer. Alternatively, please email your question to Halley Cohen (Public Relations Officer).
