Research on perinatal and maternity related mental health

OPPL lab logo

The core ambition of our research is to improve the mental health and lives of those experiencing psychological difficulties during pregnancy or after having a baby (the perinatal period), including experiences of loss.  We aim to increase knowledge and understanding of the nature and impact of perinatal mental health problems on women and birthing people, partners and infants.

Our research includes many aspects of perinatal and maternity related mental health, including understanding the development, maintenance and impact of specific psychological disorders, the interface of mental health and maternity and birth complications, refinement and delivery of psychological interventions, recognition and screening for difficulties and evaluation of service use and service models. We use a range of quantitative and qualitative methods and data types from observational studies to linked data.
