Dr. Mark Walton has been awarded a highly prestigious Senior Research Fellowship from the Wellcome Trust.  The scheme provides support for independent researchers at academic organisations in the UK and Republic of Ireland who will become leaders in their scientific field.

Mark's project is entitled "Dopamine regulation of action initiation and self-control".  He plans to use  combinations of electrochemistry, optogenetic stimulation and chemogenetic interference to investigate the role of mesolimbic dopamine in shaping decisions about whether or not to take available opportunities.  More information about Mark's research is available here.
