ABOUT US:

The Oxford Gender and Wellbeing Research Group is based in the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford. It is led by Prof Paul Salkovskis and Dr Kathryn Webb.

We are interested in experiences of gender-related emotions, including distress (gender dysphoria). Our research aims to improve understanding of the range of emotions experienced in relation to gender issues, and how people experiencing distress can best be supported.

We use a range of methodologies to address our research questions. These include systematic evidence reviews, qualitative interviews, case-series formulation work, focus groups, and measure (questionnaire) development. Our work draws on Cognitive-Behavioural and Social Identity theory frameworks, alongside other relevant social and psychological theories.

Our work is supported by unrestricted grants from SEGM (Society for Evidence-based Gender Medicine).

Our team

WORK WITH US:

Opportunities to join the research group will be advertised here when available:

We are not currently recruiting for new team members.

TAKE PART IN OUR RESEARCH:

Many of our studies need volunteers to help us in our research by sharing their thoughts and experiences.

Some of our studies will be open to the general public (anyone can take part). Other studies will need people with current or previous experiences of gender-related distress. This distress is often associated with people who currently or previously identify as transgender (including non-binary), but it can also be experienced by other people too.

If you may be interested in taking part in current or future studies, you are always welcome to get in touch to find out more information and ask questions.

If we are currently recruiting participants, opportunities to take part will be advertised here:

We are not currently recruiting participants. See below to find out how you can take part in future research.
