Anna Louise Todsen

DPhil Candidate

My DPhil focuses on understanding whether the use of AI tools in healthcare can be increased and improved through effective communication of algorithmic uncertainty. Since AI functions within the broader context of human decision-making, it is crucial to understand how it interacts with cognitive and social factors to ensure its ethical and effective use. The DPhil is supervised by Prof Nick Yeung from the ACC Lab, Dr Helen Higham from the OxSTAR Centre based at John Radcliffe Hospital, and Chief Digital and Information Officer at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Dr Ben Attwood. It is fully funded by the Grand Union ESRC Scholarship.

Prior to starting my DPhil, I worked as a junior analyst in the health and wellbeing group at RAND Europe, a not-for-profit policy research institute. I hold an MSc from the University of Oxford in Evidence-Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation and an undergraduate degree from the University of St Andrews in Social Anthropology and Psychology.
