Martin E.P. Seligman is the Zellerbach Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvannia and the Director of the Penn Positive Psychology Center. He is well-known for his ground breaking work on the learned helplessness theory of depression and for his subsequent leading role in creating the discipline of Positive Psychology. In addition to his numerous scientific publications, he has written several books that bring the ideas and findings of positive psychology to a general audience. These include: Flourish (2011), Authentic Happiness (2002), The Optimistic Child (1995), What you can change and What you can’t (1993) and Learned Optimism (1991). He is a past President of the American Psychological Association and recipient of numerous Career Achievement Awards.
