Choosing a College
All undergraduate students at Oxford become a member of a particular college, and of the whole University. Your lectures, assessment, and any practical work will be organised by the academic department(s) who run the course, while your college will organise tutorials and provide you with accommodation and other facilities.
Once you have decided which course to study, you have the option of choosing a college of preference or submitting an open application. For more information on each college who admit for the BA Experimental Psychology and BA Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics courses, please see our college brochure.
Sometimes, if a college is very oversubscribed for a particular course, shortlisted applicants might be invited to interview by another college instead, so each college interviews roughly the same number of applicants for each place.
Open Application
The purpose of allowing open applications is to permit applicants, who do not have a strong preference for a particular college, to be allocated a college on the basis of the number of places available at each college. The college allocated then becomes responsible for overseeing the application and communicating with the applicant.
