Departmental Seminar: "The neurobiology of speech production systems: why do we sound the way we do?"
Professor Sophie Scott (UCL)
Departmental Seminar Series
Thursday, 31 January 2019, 12pm to 1pm
Worcester College 1 Walton St Oxford OX1 2HB
Hosted by Jennifer Chesters
Abstract:
Professor Sophie Scott will address the links between perception and production networks in the control of human vocalisations, and how these vary during different kinds of vocal behaviour, including variation in speech production. She will demonstrate that current models of speech production, which posit a key role for error correction mechanisms in speech production are likely limited in their value, and also are that speech production and voice production may have more in common in neurobiological terms than we have necessarily assumed.
