Jinyu (Jessie) Shi

BSc, MSc

DPhil Candidate

RESEARCH SUMMARY

My research interest revolves around how children learn language and how language experiences can facilitate the acquisition process. I study the role of both spoken and written language in children’s language development and language processing of skilled adults. Particularly, my research explores the extent to which language learning and processing rest on input-driven, statistical learning processes. I work with English and Mandarin Chinese.

I am a DPhil student in the ReadOxford Lab at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Professor Kate Nation and Professor Elizabeth Wonnacott (Department of Education). I am a Clarendon Scholar funded by the Clarendon Fund at St Hugh's College.

I graduated from University College London (UCL) with a BSc in Psychology and Language Sciences, working with Professor Gabriella Vigliocco and Dr Yan Gu. I then obtained my MSc in Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh, working with Professor Hannah Rohde and Dr Alice Rees
