Age-dependent changes in sexual skin colour and associated phenomena of female gelada baboons
Dunbar RIM.
Data are presented which show that changes in the colour of the paracallosal skin of female gelada baboons (Theropithecus gelada) are age-dependent. Variations in the quality and dispersion of the fluidfilled vesicles that border the female's chest patch during oestrus are also shown to be age-dependent. The physiological mechanisms that underlie these changes and their adaptive significance are discussed. © 1977 Academic Press Inc. (London) Limited.
