Future Leaders is an annual publication supported by Oxford University that profiles 150 of the UK's most outstanding African and African Caribbean students and new graduates. This year, six Oxford students were selected to feature in the Future Leader's "Powerlist" showcasing the academic success, future potential and inspirational stories of Black undergraduates.
We're proud to announce that second-year undergraduate, Meron Haile, was selected to feature in the Future Leaders Powerlist (page 41). Well-deserving of this award, Meron has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment, engaging in many initiatives to improve access for students, including:
- as the Project Co-ordinator for Schools Plus, delegating a team of six volunteers to Cheyney School in Oxford to tutor GCSE Maths, ensuring the volunteers are suitable to work with children.
- during the pandemic, creating online resources and learnt strategies to teach online, including Whiteboards on Zoom.
- mentoring two A-level students at Project Access and Cononavirus Tutoring.
- volunteering as Head of Speaker Engagement at the Us Programme, a social enterprise for disadvantaged 15-19 year old girls.
- acting as an access ambassador of Oxford ACS and Senior Access and Outreach officer. Meron led the planning of subject revision session at the Offer Holders' Day with over 30 attendees.

The outreach work that undergraduates and University do ensures that Oxford attracts the best talent, irrespective of a student’s socio-economic status, school-type or postcode.
